1851 - Curing Your Dog’s Fear Of Thunder
CD and Booklet
Lighting

Professionals in the field, obedience instructors, behaviorists, and veterinarians say there are no other recording systems that get the job done as well as Starfire's. They have helped thousands of owners cure their dogs fears and phobias for more than a decade.
These systems are totally consistent with current knowledge of behavior-modification practices and processes. Indeed, they incorporate techniques that others have missed, in particular, a concept called "variable control."
Others generally have the owner gradually increase the volume on a recording that contains random samplings of thunder, fireworks, or gun-fire. This leaves the owner to guess at the appro-priate volume levels. Within our systems, volume increases are automatically controlled, as are all other variables.
The Starfire Systems also incorporate these and other variables others' recordings often omit:

  • Frequency of occurance -- how often the sound occurs within each segment
  • Duration of the stimulus -- how long it lasts each time
    it is heard
  • Nature of the stimulus -- in thunder, for example, a "crack-boomer" produces a different response from a "rumbler" -- even at the same decibel level
The Starfire Systems incorporate the rule of prompting and fading. The recordings begin with a ten-minute segment of music that is then played throughout the first several segments to help condition the dog to accept the gradual introduction of the thunder. Once the music has served its purpose, it is automatically faded out gradually over the remaining segments.
The system also comes with an easy-to-follow instruction manual that contains specific guidance for the owner to follow. In the thunder system, for example, the manual includes steps for introducing simulated rain, lightning, and so on.
The thunder system has been proven to cure dogs' fear of thunder or fireworks. If your dog fears both, taking him through the thunder cure system may resolve both problems. Featured in Cornell's Animal Health Newsletter and Capers Canine Behavior Newsletter.
