Basic First Aid for Puppies

Donna Owens

From checking vitals to caring for an injured pup, this informative first aid seminar will give you valuable information on how to care for puppies. Having worked with all different breeders and bred German Wirehaired Pointers herself, Donna has tons of knowledge that she would like to share. In this session, Donna will go over what breeds are more susceptible to diseases and distress as puppies and what signs to look for. Performing first aid on those tiny, wiggly bodies can be a challenge, but Donna will show how the experience can be easier for both you and the pups.

Bread & Butter Grooming: Fast & Easy Pet Trims - Drop Coat Breed

Kathy will demonstrate a fluffy pet trim on the ever popular drop coat breed. She will show you how to create quick fluffy styles with snap-on combs. She will be blending with Fish Tails and demonstrating various scissoring and blending techniques. Kathy will also go "beyond the bow" with additions such as beads, hair extensions and accent color. This seminar is a must to keep your customers happy and coming back!

Hand-Stripping

This seminar offers instruction on tools and techniques for hand-stripping. Ken will discuss the use of stones, knives (stripping, carding, 3-way, coat de-matters) and thinning shears. The do's and don'ts of using a clipper while hand-stripping will be reviewed. Ken will demonstrate the use of different brushes for hand-stripping and some different products used for bathing. Ken will teach you how to determine a pet's frequency of appointments based on its age and structure of hair.

Are you having a difficult time trying to get a smooth finish on your dogs without spending a lot of extra time? Jay will demonstrate proper body positioning to get the best control of your shears. Choosing a shear that best fits your hand is key to balancing a shear for smooth scissor work. While grooming a Pom, Jay will show you simple tips and tricks to help improve the quality of the finish on all breeds. Jay will also demonstrate how to eliminate that bounce in your shear. Blade type, handle, sizes, and quality of steel will be discussed. Whether you are a beginner or expert, this seminar will benefit you.

Battling Canine Skin Problems

Groomers can be the first line of defense in the eternal battle against skin problems, including allergies, black skin disease (Alopecia X), hot spots, itching feet, dandruff and others. Dr. Ritchie has some cool tricks and tips to help groomers recognize and treat these problems, from the very earliest signs of trouble to the most entrenched black skin. There will be plenty of samples and examples and time for questions and discussion.
